Welcome To Voice Of Newark Website
So who is the ‘Voice of Newark’?
Well, the simple answer to that is ‘You are’.
The basic intentions of the people behind this website are twofold.
Firstly, through the forums and opinion pieces, we aim to provide a place where those many people who are concerned about the current state of our community and the future plans for it, can hold a conversation about how they see the town developing and what can be done to make Newark a better place to live in.
This is not to say that there are not many good things about the town. It is, on balance, a good place to live. But not only is there considerable room for improvement - most notably with the way our elected officials carry out their duties - it is also a community which is increasingly threatened by the grand plans of those same officials.
So one of the major topics of conversation we hope to foster here is how we can best challenge those plans.
To help ensure that any debate is well informed we also aim to provide, on the website for all to see, as many as possible of the official documents related to the way the council works and the various schemes they are nurturing.
And this leads on to the second aim of this site. Through the addition of petitions on a series of key issues facing Newark we intend to serve notice to the politicians and bureaucrats who run our town that they should know their place. They are our servants, not our masters. They are there to carry out our wishes and make decisions which have the general support of the public rather than serving their own dubious ends.
If you wish to be part of this process then please do sign up for the forum. If you want to make a contribution to the debate then please also consider sending us your views for inclusion on the website. And once the petitions are in place then do please take part and make your voice – the real voice of Newark – heard by those charged with running our town on our behalf.
